Welcome to my blog…

Hi! my name is Dana, and this is a blog that I will keeping up for two of my classes this semester. I am  an english major for secondary ed, and hope to get a lot out of these classes that will help me in classroom. As far as where my interests lie in what I want to focus this blog around, I’m not quite sure yet. So that will have to wait to be seen in my next entry and what articles I find interesting.

edit:

So topics have been decided on…for my Eng 310 class, I think I want to find information and views of technology in the classroom. Thinking about new approaches to it and such. And for Eng 311, I’m leaning towards writing on diversity issues in schools. Hopefully I will find soem good articles on these topics from the New York Times and the Grand Rapids Free Press.

  1. Hi Dana,

Good to see that you’ve started blogging. I like this template and you’ve chosen a creative title. Smart idea to use categories to separate 310 and 311.

A few things this blog is missing:

You should have the complete class roster for both 310 and from my blog.

Your opening post (for both courses) should outline the purpose/focus of the blog and identify which feeds you are subscribed to. I mentioned a few ideas in class–see me if you still need direction.

  2. Dana,

I see I made a mistake in the above comment. I meant to say that you should have a complete class roster for both 310 and 311.

  3. Dana, I’m getting antsy amiga! I’m dying to know what you’re going to write about!

  5. (Pretend that I wrote this comment instead of the one I wrote above. Okie dokie?)

Technology in the classroom seems to be a hot topic in this class. I think it would be fun to kind of pair your two topics that you have chosen for 310 and 311 to see what you come up with. Diversity and technology don’t always go hand in hand, as most schools that are really diverse are on the low end of the funding spectrum. GRPS kind of comes to mind when I think of this. I think it’d be neat to see how technology can boost the students academically and whatnot. Practical applications of technology like MySpace are kind of a good way to start. Or maybe even showing what great things can come about when students are simply given a computer to work with! The ratio for student:computer is around 1:1, but in the school I mentor at, it certainly is not. I think it’d be neat to see that.

Anyway, I’m guess kind of digressing from what I meant to write. And I also kind of diverted away from the topic that you had chosen in the first place. Whatever way you decide to approach technology in the classroom will be fantastic, and I’m excited to see how your blog develops!

  6. very interesting, but I don’t agree with you
